About Edinburgh, and accommodations
Edinburgh (pronounced ED-in-burro) is an enchanting city, a place with a rich past and vibrant present. The streets downtown, lined with shops and pubs, wind their way toward the centerpiece of the city, a fairy-tale-like castle perched on a high cliff. The Royal Mile connects the castle with the Palace of Holyroodhouse and features many interesting stops such as St. Giles High Kirk, the Scotch Whiskey Heritage Centre, the Witchery, the Writers Musem, and the new Scottish Parliament Building.
Summers in Scotland are much like New England in early fall, with temperatures is in the upper 60s to mid-70s during the day, and cooler at night. Rain and misty weather are frequent, but the sunny days are spectacular.
Edinburgh is also home to several other festivals during August, including the International Festival, Film Festival, Book Festival, Jazz Festival, and Edinburgh Art Festival.
Accommodations
In Edinburgh, you will stay in a central, well-appointed, shared, self-catering, apartment. Linens, kitchen with dishwasher, television, washing machines, linens, and wi-fi access will be provided. (Anyone wishing to stay in a private apartment, or bed and breakfast, may contact the director for pricing and availability–just email). All the theatre venues and major attractions are within walking distance; bus lines are also close. Accommodations in the Old Town rarely have elevators, so be prepared for stairs (or let us know if you have special needs.)
Currently, the program has booked a large, 5-bedroom Georgian apartment within a few blocks of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh’s West End. This centrally located accommodation can be viewed here. Each participant (or couple) will have their own room. We also have a 2-bedroom accommodation on the Royal Mile which will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
